Calm Abiding was begun soon after Ocean Samadhi was completed and is a companion painting. The landscape is of Austrian mountains. The Buddha sits on the shore surrounded by skull and a young woman sunbathing, her skeleton uncovered. There is a simplicity and beauty in the images of life and death offered to us in both paintings.
